It was on this date, 4 years ago, that I helped Tom paint the outside of his church building, Redeemer Presbyterian Church. Tom's minister, Hal Farnsworth, asked if anyone knew how to paint trim, and being the experienced painter that I am, I raised my hand and painted trim with Hal. He is known for his not-so-shyness and asked me if Tom and I were 'just friends' or if we were 'sweet on each other' even though I'd just met him.
Tom and I had only been 'seeing each other' for about a month at this point, but I was beginning to wonder the same thing.
While we were having lunch and watching some children play, I took the initiative to ask. I remember asking, "Tom, are we just friends or are we dating?" He looked at me like I had four eyes and said, "We're dating." And that was that.
I think it was a mere 2 weeks later when I asked again, "Tom, are we just dating or are we boyfriend and girlfriend?" And he said again matter of factly, "You're my girlfriend."
Lorine and I sometimes joked about a scenario where Tom would give me a ring and I'd have to ask, "Tom, is this just a ring or are we engaged?" :) That never had to happen. When Tom wanted to marry me, he made it very clear that those were his intentions.
I do actually have photos to document both those days. Both times not knowing that I'd ask about the nature of our relationship. Problem is, the photos are on my external hard drive, and with the state our place is in due to the yard sale and moving, I have NO idea where it is. Maybe I'll have to do a followup photo in a later post.
On another note, I really miss my sewing machine. It's been a long time since we've hung out. Maybe this weekend, after the yard sale, after cleaning up my clothes that are accumulating on my side of the room, after we restore some order, I will be able to find some time.
